Well this is my first post even though I am in week 3 of training. I don't know how much I will blog or if I will even tell people about the blog. But, I want to have a journal of it and this is the best way to keep it. I have decided to try my luck at a Triathlon. The one I have picked is a Midwest Meltdown in Paola, KS on August 30th. There is another one a week earlier and if I think I am ready for it, I will do it instead because on August 29th there is a Mud and Muck 5k fun run that I want to do, just as a goof.
So far the training has gone well. No injuries and I haven't missed a work out yet. Some days there are 2 separate work outs and those are a challenge to schedule around work and life.
Today was actually supposed to be a rest day, but looking ahead this week I thought it would be smart to get a run in. I finished work at Osage National Golf Club at The Lake of the Ozarks and knew I wouldn't make it to my hotel with enough light to run so I put on my running clothes and ran 48 minutes on the golf course. It was a challenge but also very pretty and relaxing. One thing I like about the Triathlon training is that you exercise for a set amount of time instead of distance. It just makes it easier when on the road to not have to map out a X mile run. I just run one direction for half the time and turn around and head back.
I haven't set my goals yet. Obviously, the big one is to finish it. But I think I really want to push myself and get a decent time. Since I haven't trained in a while, June is just a month to get my base back and it is coming back faster than I thought it would. And since I knew swimming would be my weak area (at least to start) I have chosen a work out plan that has 3 days a week of swimming instead of the normal 2. It is paying off. I can feel my swimming getting better, quickly. July is going to be the month where I really start to push for certain times etc.
